LC State's Corrections Education Program delivers a rigorous Liberal Arts and Business Administration associate degree curriculum to incarcerated students at Idaho Correctional Institution - Orofino (ICIO). ICIO students are adult learners who are generally highly motivated, dedicated to the material, and to being a college student. They will come to class fully prepared and offer engaging classroom discussion.
Teaching for LC State Corrections Ed
Teaching in corrections education programs allows faculty to positively influence incarcerated individuals' lives through education, fostering personal growth and reducing recidivism rates. This unique teaching environment enhances pedagogical skills, adaptability, and understanding of diverse student populations, offering rewarding experiences for faculty as they witness the transformative impact of education on individuals facing adversity.

It's difficult to narrow down a specific professor and how they have had an impact on my life. Not because there hasn't been any, but because there has been SO many. These people step outside of their known comfort zones, the classrooms they have become accustomed to, and step into a prison... all just to help us help ourselves. The entire faculty at LCSC have impacted me and my life.
The professor would make sure everyone felt like they were a part of the class and always provided praise to every student. It did so much to help build my confidence being a part of his class. Even though he was coming into prison to teach he always treated the residents as equals.
How Do I Apply?
Any terminal degree-holding faculty member is eligible to apply. Interested faculty should submit a cover letter explaining their interest, relevant background, and availability along with a curriculum vitae to the Adult & Corrections Education Director.
Training
Faculty will work with the Adult & Corrections Education (ACE) Director to understand procedures, expectations, and fulfill requirements. A mandatory background check and Idaho Department of Corrections Volunteer training will be required.
Interested faculty are welcome to attend a facility tour. Please let the ACE Director know if you would be like to attend!
