Second Chance Opportunity to Pursue Education

The Second Chance Opportunity to Pursue Education Program is a cooperative collegiate effort between Idaho Correctional Institution Orofino (ICIO) and LC State.

SCOPE Program

The mission of the SCOPE (Second Chance Opportunity to Pursue Education) program is to help organize and foster an inside student community; giving new and continuing resident students a better chance at higher education and providing additional resources to help successfully pursue that opportunity.

Student Council

A Student Council has been created within SCOPE consisting of six LC State students who have been recommended by the school and LC State staff. All chosen students have excelled both academically and in their rapport with ICIO and school staff. The council is utilized as a liaison between students and staff to ensure the success of the program through open communication.

Mentor Program

A student mentor program has also been established within SCOPE to increase the availability of the network of resources within the student community. These mentors help current, new, or returning students navigate college.

Tutor Program

The tutoring program is overseen by the Student Council, which helps to link students with an appropriate tutor. These tutors are either current or former college students who have excelled in the specific courses they are tutoring in.
